1 dram = about 1 teaspoon

Appropriate for use in chocolates and coatings (typical use is ¼ to ½ teaspoon per pound)

Try Paring with Bavarian Cream or Honey Flavorings.

Sassafras would be a good alternative in our Root Beer Fudge Recipe.

A little goes a long way!  LorAnn’s super strength flavors (also known as candy oils or flavoring oils) are three to four times the strength of typical baking extracts.

Typical uses: hard candy, general candy making, cakes, cookies, frosting, ice cream and a wide variety of other baking and confectionery applications.

Note: When substituting super strength flavors for extracts, use ¼ to ½ teaspoon for 1 teaspoon of extract.

I am an amateur flavorist. I bought LorAnn sassafras flavoring about 10 years ago. See

LorAnn sassafras flavoring tastes nothing like sassafras. I recommend that Lorann reformulate it using dihydroanethol which tastes similar to safrole.

LorAnn Response: Thank you for your suggestion, many years ago we did adjust our formulation to remove safrole and we did our best to arrive at a flavor that is close to natural sassafras, but yet appealing to a wide audience.
