INGREDIENTS

1 tablespoon LorAnn beeswax beads
1 tablespoon LorAnn sweet almond oil
1 tablespoon LorAnn shea butter
1 teaspoon (1-dram bottle) LorAnn Super-Strength Flavoring (see flavoring suggestions below)

6-8 Lip Balm Tubes and/or Clear Lip balm plastic pots

Directions

  1. Measure beeswax beads, sweet almond oil, shea butter and desired flavor into a small glass mixing jar (a clean condiment jar works well) or a 1-cup Pyrex measuring cup.
  2. Fill a small saucepan with 1 inch of water and heat to simmer.
  3. Place glass jar or measuring cup in pan and allow plant butters and beeswax to melt, stirring occasionally. Do not over-heat. Remove from pan.
  4. Pour liquified base into containers and allow to harden undisturbed for 20 minutes.

Flavoring Suggestions

Blood Orange Oil, Banana Cream Flavor**, Black Cherry Flavor, Cheesecake Flavor, Cookies & Cream Flavor**, Grapefruit Oil, Key Lime Flavor, Lemon Oil*, Lime Oil*, Orange Oil, Peppermint Oil, Pina Colada Flavor, Spearmint Oil, Tangerine Oil, Tropical Punch Flavor, Watermelon Flavor

*These essential oils are photosensitizing and may make skin more sensitive to sunshine or UV light.
**Slight color separation may occur.

Tip:  Try a combination of flavors such as 1/2 teaspoon Tangerine Oil and 1/2 teaspoon Peppermint Oil. Peppermint Oil adds a brisk, tingling sensation to your lip balm.

Sweetening Option: LorAnn flavors and essential oils contain no added sweeteners.  A small amount of honey, Stevia drops, or other sweetener can be added for additional flavor enhancement.

Coloring Option
: Inexpensive lipstick works best. To color your lip balm, slice off a small amount of the lipstick and stir into melted lip balm mixture.

I followed your recipe exactly and I used the bubblegum flavor and it all ended up at the bottom! I have 7 tubes that are not pink and the last one is all pink! Can you help me ? Thanks

LorAnn's Response: Hello, Kae! We're sorry to hear your lip balm separated. We tested all our Super Strength flavors in our lip balm recipe, and found not all of them stay blended. Visit the recipe page for suggested flavors. Another option is to add a touch of lecithin, an emulsifier that will help maintain a homogeneous mixture.

Question
July 28, 2020
which is better for lip gloss and blams ,The oils or flavoring? Or should I use both? Im looking for a good sent and smell and I want it to last long on the lips and shelves..

LorAnn's Response: Hello, Carla. We tested all our Super Strength flavors in our lip balm recipe, and found that oil/water wasn't necessarily the factor. Please see our recipe for Flavored Lip Balm to see which specific flavors worked well. Just search item R0009.

A question
June 11, 2020
What is the recommended percentage to use in the lip balm?

Thank you!

LorAnn's Response: Hi, Tiera! For our flavored lip balm recipe, we used 1 tsp of flavor for 3 TBSP of carrier. That equates to 10% flavoring.

LorAnn's Response: Hi, Tiera! We used 1 tsp of flavor for every 3 Tbsp of carriers. That equates to 10% flavor in our recipe.

I am wondering if this mixes well in Versagel and for the flavors containing water, will I need a preservative? I’m wanting to use for lipgloss rather than lip balm

LorAnn's Response: Hello, Alexis. We haven't experimented with Versagel. The amount of water in the flavors is minimum, but to extend shelf-life of a cosmetic product, you may need to use a preservative.

False Advertisement ! Buyer beware!!! Do not waste your hard earned money trying to flavor lip balm with this product!
January 23, 2020
I bought 4 flavor oils specifically for lip balm flavoring to fill an order for my company while waiting on real lip balm flavoring. Those 5 star reviews cant be real! The flavoring just sinks to the bottom of the melted oils. This is a classic case of false advertisement!!

LorAnn's Response: Hello, Stacy! We are sorry you had issues making lip balm. We have spent a good deal of time testing our Super Strength flavors in our recipe. The flavors that we have listed blended well, and had good flavor and aroma. We would like to learn more about your experience and what flavors and recipe you used. Please contact Customer Care at 1-800-862-8620.

Almond flavored lip balm
November 14, 2019
I tried this based on the recipe provided here. The balm is very nice and soft, and glides beautifully. I usually use coconut oil, but I decided to try this as written to see how it compares, I was impressed. I am curious to see what people use as a sweetener and how much. Non liq splen was no good.

LorAnn's Response: Hi, Jen! How about a bit of real honey as a sweetener?

Great! Love it
October 27, 2019
I am bought the chocolate hazelnut and butterscotch from amazon. I used the hazelnut one for 26 lip balms and it was still potent in all. What I wonder is whether I would need preservative for my balms as I realise there is water in the flavour oils. Please advise.

LorAnn's Response: Hi, Alecia! The Super Strength flavors have a shelf-life of up to three years. We have tested this flavoring line in our own lip balm recipe, and discovered that with many of the water-soluble flavors, the color and flavor separate. The addition of a few drops of an emulsifier like lecithin helped prevent this.

Everything turned out awesome for me.

Here is what I have used so far. Cinnamon . strawberry. Watermelon. Do not use a microwave to melt your ingredients. Double boil and when you take off the burner use a paper towel to dry off all the water on the side of your measuring cup. Then add your flavoring stir for a good 5 minutes .

Can you use coconut oil instead of shea butter and/or almond oil
December 18, 2018
Can you use coconut oil instead of shea butter and/or almond oil?

Also, I have Strawberry, Tutti fruity, Grape, Cherry, Cotton candy, Marshmellow, BubbleGum, and apple. What good mix's can you make with these?

I need these question answered by Christmas, Thanks!

LorAnn's Response: Hello! Replacing the shea butter or almond oil with coconut oil would likely produce a softer, glossier lip balm. We haven't experimented with adding coconut oil to our recipe, but it is possible it would work. We have tested all of our Super Strength flavorings in our lip balm recipe and have listed the flavors that worked best for us on the recipe page. The flavors you have purchased will work in many other applications. For recipe ideas, enter the flavor into "search by keyword". This will bring up any recipe that we created using the flavor you searched.

Not for Lip Balm
September 28, 2018
So disappointed in these oils. It just beaded up and sank to the bottom of my container. Which is apparent this has water in it and not just oils. Please do not advertise that this can be used for products containing oils when it clearly is NOT to be used in products with oils in them.

LorAnn's Response: Hi, Lynette. Sorry to hear you didn't have a good experience making lip balm. We have tested all of our Super Strength flavorings and found that some worked better than others. We have provided a link to that list from the recipe page. Some of the more subtle flavors required doubling up and some that are a little more difficult to blend can benefit from a few drops of an emulsifier like lecithin. Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback!

I am sorry I wasted my money. The watermelon flavoring did not mix, blend but pooled and sat on the bottom of the pan. The flavoring cost 2.50. Please explain the problem.

My daughter and I made our first batch yesterday and it turned out perfectly. We made 10 Chapsticks. We added a mix of cherry and watermelon and had no issues with separation. Can't wait to try other flavors! Thanks for the recipe.

I love the Lorann oil chapstick making kit and the Dram flavors, they have been AMAZING. The people leaving reviews saying that the oils sat at the bottom of the tube and didn’t mix...well you obviously didn’t follow the directions cause I did and they turned out AMAZING.

LorAnn's Response: Thank you for the great review! We are so glad you enjoy the lip balm kit and recipe.

I wish I had read the other review before buying these in a store. I have lip balms with liquid oil in the bottom of the tube. I made a test batch, and 2 out of 14 have this problem. The flavor is wonderful (I used eggnog)! Wish it worked better.

The oils don't blend.
October 1, 2017
It's a nice idea but the Lorann oils just sit in the bottom. They do not blend at all so you just end up with a mess. Your Lorann oils are sunk to the bottom while the hardened plant butters and oils harden on the top resulting in liquid Lorann oils in the bottom and not dispersed throughout.

LorAnn's response: Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We have now tested all of our flavorings and several are not recommended because they separate. We have revised this recipe to include our highly recommended flavorings. If you would like more details about a particular flavor, please contact us.
